vs. EasyRetro

Retrospective Lab vs. EasyRetro — which retro tool fits your team?

EasyRetro is one of the longest-running retrospective tools on the market, with a large community of Scrum Masters worldwide. But teams that work privacy-first, want measurable results, or prefer to keep their data in Europe run into limitations.

Retrospective Lab was built by Scrum Masters who knew exactly those frustrations. In this comparison we place both tools side by side honestly — so you can make the choice that fits your team.

In-depth comparison

Free plan: who is truly more generous?

EasyRetro has a free tier, but it is more restrictive than it looks. You get 1 public board per month and can only keep 1 board on your dashboard. For a team running bi-weekly retros, that plan is exhausted after just one sprint.

Retrospective Lab's free plan offers 3 retros per month — 3× more than EasyRetro's 1 board/month. One facilitator can create a board every sprint, use all 70+ templates, and invite unlimited participants — without ever paying. No expiring trial, no credit card required.

A note on those template counts: more templates does not mean more variety. Many of EasyRetro's 200+ are the same retro questions in a different wrapper. Retrospective Lab curates 70+ templates that each serve a distinct purpose — every one of them available in four languages.

💡Retrospective Lab's free plan is suitable for day-to-day use. EasyRetro's is suitable for a one-off trial.

Data location and GDPR

EasyRetro runs on Google Cloud Platform. Your data is processed on US servers, with a Data Processing Agreement that uses Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for EU transfers. That is legally possible, but European DPAs have repeatedly stated that SCCs under systematic US transfers face pressure under Schrems II.

Retrospective Lab runs exclusively on European servers. Your retro data never leaves the EU. For teams in education, government, healthcare, or financial services this is not a detail — it is a requirement.

💡If GDPR compliance is a genuine requirement (not just a checkbox), choose a tool whose data never leaves the EU.

Measurability: what does a retro actually deliver?

This is where the tools differ most. EasyRetro is a retro board tool. You create a board, your team writes sticky notes, you vote, you close with actions. It does that well. But whether those actions delivered results the next sprint — EasyRetro does not measure that.

Retrospective Lab has a sprint KPI dashboard. You see per sprint the velocity trend, defect net-flow, and what percentage of actions were completed on time. You connect retro outcomes to measurable sprint numbers. We call this the closed loop: from insight to action to evidence.

💡If you want to prove that retrospectives work — to your team, your manager, or yourself — Retrospective Lab has a unique feature that EasyRetro does not offer.

All-in-one vs. retro-only

EasyRetro does one thing: retros. That is also its strength — the tool is fast, familiar, and has little learning curve. But for Planning Poker you need an external tool (PlanitPoker), for Working Agreements a separate document, for sprint analysis Jira or Excel.

Retrospective Lab bundles multiple Scrum ceremonies in one platform: retro boards and Working Agreements, with a Jira integration for story point estimation coming soon and Planning Poker on the roadmap. Your Scrum Master no longer has to switch between tools. Pro costs €27/facilitator/mo or €79 flat for teams with up to 5 facilitators. EasyRetro bills in dollars; the amounts on this page are converted at the July 2026 exchange rate.

💡For teams that want to facilitate multiple Agile ceremonies digitally, Retrospective Lab offers more value per euro.

Languages

Here EasyRetro is actually broader: since 2023 the EasyRetro interface supports eight languages — English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Polish, and Dutch. Retrospective Lab supports four: Dutch, English, Spanish, and German.

💡If you want the broadest language coverage, EasyRetro wins. If your team works in Dutch, English, Spanish, or German, either tool is fully usable in your own language.

Integrations

EasyRetro scores stronger here: Jira, Slack, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, and Trello are all available. At Retrospective Lab, the Jira integration is coming soon; Confluence, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Trello are on the roadmap.

If Slack notifications or Teams integration are a requirement for your workflow, EasyRetro is the better choice today. Want to revisit that trade-off in 6 months? Keep an eye on the Retrospective Lab roadmap.

💡For broad integrations, EasyRetro scores higher today. Retrospective Lab is catching up on the roadmap.

Choose EasyRetro if…

  • You want a simple, familiar retro tool with a minimal learning curve
  • Slack and Confluence integrations are essential today
  • You have no GDPR requirements around data location
  • You want the largest possible template library (200+), even if many templates overlap in substance

Choose Retrospective Lab if…

  • You want your data to stay in Europe (GDPR, government, healthcare, finance)
  • You want to measure whether retros actually deliver results in sprint metrics
  • You want Working Agreements in the same tool as your retros (Planning Poker is on the roadmap)
  • You want 3 retros/month free — 3× more than EasyRetro
